Blog 1:1 – This mommas health does matter

My journey to better internal health:

Here it is. I have decided to take you on my own journey for the next little while.

I don’t talk about it often enough but it is so important to take care of ourselves. I preach this to my clients day in and day out(seriously, just go ask them). I enforce this in all of my programs and love to see everyone else get it, except me.

I don’t intentionally do. I mean well when I eat good foods and try to exercise, but when you deal with long term health issues it somehow doesn’t feel as important as something sudden.

So here I am taking you all on a little journey with me, normally your trainer and coach, but now a fellow mom and woman who is on a mission to take better care of herself.

Almost 5 years ago, I was running like a crazy woman with 4 young kids, running a house hold and trying to keep it all together. Joe and I talked about how four kids was a lot of work and how them all being so young we needed to make sure put the baby making on hold. So instead of the usual birth control like most woman are used to. The pill.

Now I always was used to taking this as I had a very heavy ‘time of the month’, in my younger years, but considering I got pregnant with Joseph while I was on the pill, we thought we better try something else(and for the record we are so blessed for Joseph☺️).

So I went to my doctor, and talked to her about my options.

So by popular demand, she suggested a drug called, Depo-Provera.

And I trusted that it was a safe form, so I said, ‘of course, why not’.

So I just researched this and found:

•Depo-Provera is the 4-times-a-year birth control injection that carries an FDA “black box” warning that long-term use is associated with significant bone mineral density loss.

• You will have side effects from using this form of contraception. The most frequently reported side effects are weight gain, spotting, and irregular or heavy menstrual periods, depression, headache, nervousness, possible higher risk of breast cancer in women younger than 35, and anemia (low blood count).

• Not to mention the 1000’s of reviews that this drug is the ‘devil’ even with one injection.

• So this is the start of my journey. The more I researched the symptoms and long term side effects, the more I discover that I am not alone.

Since I took Depo- Provera 5 years ago, I have experienced:

• Extreme bleeding from the day I first got the shot.

• irregularly of periods

• severe anemia

• •depression and anxiety

• •dealt with tons of abdominal pain and cramping over the years

• large Endometrial mass(palap), in my uterus which will need a biopsy as well

So I have decided to share my journey with you and give you my story of how things have been going with my health over the last couple years. I never really dealt with being anemic before and it has literally enabled me at times.

For those don’t know the symptoms of being diagnosed with anemia:

Iron deficiency anemia signs and symptoms may include:

• Extreme fatigue

• Weakness

• Pale skin

• Chest pain, fast heartbeat or shortness of breath

• Headache, dizziness or lightheadedness

• Cold hands and feet

• Inflammation or soreness of your tongue

• Brittle nails

• Unusual cravings for non-nutritive substances, such as ice, dirt or starch

So to say the least dealing with anemia on a daily basis is tough, and sometimes feels impossible because you just want to feel okay, but physical can’t.

Over the course of the next while I will be documenting my journey while I go for surgery to remove the palap/D and C and the recovery and process of hopefully putting things back to normal and get on the road to recovery.

A wife and mom of 5, business owner and hobby farm I need my energy back and my health to be able to help me keep up.
